Islamic Cleric Bans Women from Touching Bananas, Cucumbers to Avoid ‘Sexual Thoughts’

In a ridiculously repressive and absurd proposal, an Islamic cleric residing in Europe has said in a ruling that women should not touch or be anywhere close to bananas and cucumbers, in order to avoid “sexual thoughts”.

An unnamed sheikh was quoted in a religious publication, el-Senousa News, as saying that if a woman wished to eat cucumbers or bananas, it should be sliced into pieces, preferably by her husband or father, before she eats them. Egyptian English news site Bikya Masr reported the proposal. According to the report, the sheikh has also added carrots and zucchini to the list of apparently immoral and blasphemous fruits and vegetables.

The sheikh was also asked if simply holding these vegetables, while out shopping, would be “harmful” for women. He replied that it was a matter between God and women.

Via Forever in Hell

Although I find myself doubting the validity of this I do firmly believe this has more to say about the state of mind of the Islamic Cleric than it does about women finding these various fruits and vegetables erotic. If the sight of fruit does this for him going to the local supermarket must be like a visitation to Tienda Erotica…

He must see penises everywhere, which really does beg the question..Hmm

I choose to believe…

From Unreasonable Faith

The religious frequently choose to put their faith in religion, quite literally, because it is easier to believe what they were programmed to believe from birth than think for themselves.

Just imagine if there were no Christianity

Imagine how the following stories would differ if Christianity did not exit.  Rewrite them if you’d like and present the changes you think would be likely.

James in elementary school realised that he was attracted to other boys his age. He kept this from his parents who were devout Evangelical Christians since he knew that they believed it a sin and a ticket to Hell.  He wrestled with his sexuality and his parents beliefs for he too assumed the Bible was true and that homosexuality was a a serious sin.

In High School he shared his feelings with another boy who was struggling with exactly the same issue.  They comforted each other. However, the other boy’s parents found out and sent him to a private Christian School. James found out later his friend committed suicide.

The Rapture ‘Sorry’

It is possible the rapture did happen.

Just perhaps, given the insane criteria for entering heaven, the human race as a whole failed to measure up and were therefore all left behind to suffer the final torment of endless Justin Bieber concerts and rebooting of movies which should never have been made in the first place.

The only way to know for sure is to wait for October 21st. :p

Girls to receive “Just say no” sex education

With the news last week that MPs in the UK have voted through the first stage the ‘abstinence education for girls’ Sex Education Bill it is becoming increasingly explicit that gender stereotypes continue to play a function in societal judgments about the role of girls as being moral “gatekeepers”. There is no reference in the entire bill of educating boys in the same manner.

Although turnout was low for the vote, which will ensure that sex education for girls includes ‘information and advice on the benefits of abstinence from sexual activity’ is covered in all shools, the bill will continue through the process of becoming law. Only 67 MPs were present but, rather unfortunately, 61 voted in favour.

The wording of the Bill implies that sole responsibility for ensuring sexual relationships are safe, fulfilling and consensual lies solely with women and girls. This is not only demeaning but woefully misguided – a message that can lead to victimisation, victim-blaming and dangerous stereotyping.

Education about sexual activitiy should be aimed at ALL children and not be gender biased. All children and young people have a right to high quality, comprehensive and objective sex and relationship education (SRE) in all schools, including ‘faith’ schools, which would and should equip young people – both boys and girls – with the information and skills to say no to sexual activity if that is what they choose. But in no way should the focus be on girls to be the moral compass in todays society.

This unfortunate Bill and vote is influenced by a growing movement with vested interests in promoting and imposing a narrow, unshared and potentially damaging perspective regarding gender, sex, sexual health and abortion rights. This is merely one step in their campaign to add a religious-bias to sex education in our school systems.

Whilst we agree it is imperative ALL children have a healthy attitude to sex and receive a solid education in this field it should not be targeting girls to act as a moral compass – thus ensuring the blame, once more, lies solely at the door of women in matters of sexual activity. The bill is fronted by Conservative MP Nadine Dorries

Ricky Gervais on Being an Atheist

Like Ricky Gervais it annoys me when the religious assume the burden of proof should lie with the non-believer – but yet try to draw us into their beliefs. If they wish to conscript us into their small minded childlike worldview the burden of proof lies with them, not us.
